Robbie Coltrane suffered health issues in the past that might have contributed to his death.

The "Harry Potter" fandom received saddening news from Coltrane's agent, Scott Henderson, who confirmed his death on Friday. The actor, who played the role of gamekeeper Hagrid in the beloved series, was 72.

News outlets that reported his death, including CNN, did not disclose Robbie Coltrane's cause of death as details about it remain unknown to the public.

However, talks about the health issues he faced before his passing emerged.

Robbie Coltrane Was in Pain Before His Death

In the years leading to his death, people saw him in a wheelchair during public outings. In 2020, he addressed the talks and revealed to Daily Express that he had been in constant pain because of osteoarthritis.

"I was fighting pain 24 hours a day when I was in National Treasure and Great Expectations. I had no cartilage in my knee. It was bone on bone," he said.

Coltrane then lost his ability to walk unassisted because of debilitating pain. In fact, it reportedly felt worst enough that he would not wish his worst enemy to face it, as well.

The actor already received a warning from his doctors to avoid health issues, revealing that the medical experts told him to lose weight as he was at risk of getting crippled.

The Sun noted that in 2016, Coltrane attempted to reach his target weight before receiving treatment. But after an operation, he found out that he had no cartilage left in one of his knees.

Three years later, he depended on a wheelchair and started worrying about his fans because of his inability to walk. At that time, he was waiting for a knee replacement after the bone condition destroyed his joints.

In 2020, the pain was relieved somehow when he underwent the long-awaited procedure.

Robbie Coltrane's Death Unexpected

Despite the health issue, Coltrane's death was a shock as he was scheduled to meet his fans again.

In July, the actor was supposed to attend the Comic-Con at Olympia London to meet fans and offer a photo opportunity to them. However, the organizers emailed the fans and said that Coltrane withdrew his appearance because of his "ill health."

Unfortunately, he no longer had the chance to make it up to everyone as he ultimately succumbed.
