In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly paid $14,650,000 for an 18,000-square-foot home in Montecito, California, following their decision to step away from their royal roles.

Compared to their previous LA rental home, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's new home is gated and secure. It is located in the upscale California community where Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres live.

"This is the first home either of them has ever owned. It has been a very special time for them as a couple and as a family to have complete privacy for six weeks since they moved in," a source reportedly told Page Six at the time.

The family's mansion reportedly boasts nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a tennis court, a two-bed guesthouse, a chicken coop, a pool, a tea house, a rose garden and luxurious interiors, which feature a mix of Victorian elements and midcentury modern touches.

For her 40th birthday video, the Duchess of Sussex gave a glimpse of her home office, which featured a wooden table, ivory chairs, coffee table books, a woven rug and a Hermés blanket. The workspace looked calming with its color-coordinated decors in white, beige and light brown.

In the backdrop was a stone fireplace.

In January, Bryony Gordon of the Telegraph visited the family's Montecito home to speak with her old friend Prince Harry about his book "Spare."

Gordon described Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's home as a "sanctuary surrounded by acres of greenery, chickens, a play area and a teepee."

According to her, there was also a DIY picture wall on a staircase filled with photos of the family, alongside handwritten cards from the royal grandparents.

In Prince Harry's video message for the 17th Annual Stand Up for Heroes Benefit, a glimpse of the stone columns and greenery from their Montecito home was seen.

Prince Harry reportedly filmed the video at home.

The Montecito house evokes "a classic Tuscan villa, a Napa vineyard and a manicured Beverly Hills country club," per The Cut when it interviewed Markle in August 2022.

"We did everything we could to get this house," Markle told The Cut at the time. "It's healing. You feel free," she added, talking about their home.
