Tom Holland, 27, is a British Academy Award-winning actor and has been featured on the European Forbes 30 Under 30 List in 2019. However, in the time he spent working on incredible films such as Spider-Man and The Avengers, he did manage to forget one thing — paying his water bill.

In a Q & A with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation for the 2023 TV miniseries The Crowded Room, the Hollywood star discussed taking a week off during filming, followed by a year off from work. He said the weight of the character in combination with the schedule was getting "too much" and recognized that he's lucky to be at a stage in his career where when he asks for help, he gets it.

"My year off had nothing to do with the show," he said. "It just had everything to do with my age and growing up. I've been doing this since I was 11 on stage in London and haven't had a break since."

It is at this moment that the talented actor admits that while spending time at home with family, friends, and organizing his life, he found out he hadn't paid his water bill in five years.

"It's because I didn't know you had to do that!" Holland says emphatically. "I just thought water was free...in England. It rains all the time," he shrugged. "Why am I paying for this?"

Holland elaborates further in a conversation focused on mental health and overcoming social anxiety on the "On Purpose with Jay Shetty" podcast.

"I think there should be a lesson at school that's called life. Which is like laundry, basic cooking, like...I didn't realize you had to pay for your water I just thought that was a luxury of living in England. Like, the water comes out of the sky and then it comes out your tap. I was so behind on my water bill I didn't realize! I'm up to date now, don't worry."

Tom Holland began acting at the ripe age of 12 and has continued to captivate audiences around the world. After a well-deserved reset, Holland says he's fully prepared to take his education about the business to new heights and looks forward to the next chapter in his acting career.
