Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received an intense backlash on social media for choosing to name their daughter "Lilibet."

British journalist, author and documentary filmmaker Robert Hardman claimed in his new book that insiders told him the Queen wasn't happy about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announcing she gave them her blessing to name their daughter after her intimate nickname "Lilibet."

The issue has become a topic of discussion lately. Some pity the little girl for being dragged into the issue, while many blame her parents.

Many slammed the Sussexes for choosing a name that is linked to the royals, even though they accused them of being racist in their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

During the interview, the royal couple said a member of the firm raised concerns about their unborn child's skin color, which sparked racist allegations against the royal family. Prince Harry later denied calling the royal family racist, saying they meant "unconscious bias."

"Why name your daughter after a person who was the head of an institution you openly labeled as being racist and refused Meghan support when she was pregnant and suicidal? Harry and Meghan are two vile, nauseating liars and schemers," one wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in response to the discussions surrounding the name of the couple's daughter.

"We don't know what they talked to each other. But After [the] Oprah Interview, with negative light upon RF, they should not even ask for [a] name or anything from HMTQ. They want to get only advantage! Shameless!" another added.

"[A]nd yet they choose to name their daughter a name only known and used by The Queen's parents and husband! Why would anyone choose to do that given your colorful description of how awful the RF was to poor Meghan?" a third user stated.

Meanwhile, several netizens defended the Sussexes. For them, Prince Harry and Markle never called the Queen racist, and their feud with the royals didn't include the late monarch.

"Where did Harry or Meghan call Queen Elizabeth racist on TV or in a book? We'll wait, why [do] you try and fabricate something[?] Also, when you fallout (sic) with one or two members of your family, do you fall out with your entire family? How immature," one commented.

"Show everyone please where Harry and Meghan called the Queen a racist," another added.

"Meghan has never called them racist, neither has Harry. We who have observed their double standards and disgusting connivance with the British Media to attack their young family means that, we, Black people, especially women, are calling them racist. We know what it looks like!" a third person opined.

Charlotte Griffiths, editor at large at Mail on Sunday, also weighed in on the issue. She clarified that the backlash was not for the Sussexes' youngest child, and she seemingly blamed Prince Harry and Markle for their choice of name for their daughter.

"We're not attacking the little girl, it's about, as you say, publicity, making a drama, inviting their daughter into the circus by calling her Lilibet," Griffiths said on TalkTV.
