Anne Hathaway had a cringe moment during her recent appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."

A short clip showing a segment from the 41-year-old actress' interview with Fallon went viral on X, formerly Twitter, quickly garnering over 4.8 million views, 36,000 hearts, 1,400 retweets and 13,000 bookmarks.

As seen in the video posted by X user @finelytaylored, Hathaway was talking about her co-actor and on-screen love interest Nicholas Galitzine in her new film "The Idea of You" when she suddenly asked the audience, "Has anybody here read the book?"

Unfortunately, her question was met with silence. It seemed like no one in the audience knew that her latest film was based on Robinne Lee's novel of the same name.

To make the atmosphere less awkward, the comedian-host immediately jokingly chimed in, saying, "No, we don't read. This is 'The Tonight Show.' You want to go to Stephen Colbert if you want to get people that read books. We don't read. Lame!"

Embarrassed, the multi-awarded actress covered her face with her hands while laughing, seemingly trying to compose herself.

"Well, you have an awesome book in store for you. It's written by...," she continued before Fallon chimed in again, "Lame! O! We do Audible here. We do that. Does that count?"

She recovered quickly and ended up saying, "What's a book?" making everyone on the set burst into laughter.

Jokes aside, in the full interview, Fallon let Hathaway continue what she was saying about Galitzine being a perfect fit for portraying the character of Hayes Campbell in "The Idea of You."

"Well, the book does have a fan following somewhere. And I think the book is incredible, and Hayes Campbell is so beautifully written in the book, and so we knew that we just really needed to find someone really special," the actress said.

"And he walked in, yeah, and I just thought, 'Oh, that's Hayes Campbell.' And that was almost two years ago. Now, Nick and I have become really good friends."

Anne's new film follows the story of a 40-year-old single mom, Solène Marchand (Hathaway), who starts an unexpected romance with a 24-year-old lead singer of a popular boyband named Hayes Campbell (Galitzine).

"The Idea of You" will be released on Prime Video on Thursday.
