Taye Diggs, Idina Menzel Divorce Happened Due To 'Interracial Aspect' As Apryl Jones Split Reports Surface
Taye Diggs has been leading the entertainment headlines as of late, especially as more reports about his split with Apryl Jones surface. However, the actress isn't Diggs' first high-profile relationship that unfortunately ended.
Prior to dating the "Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood" star, Diggs was married to Idina Menzel for 10 years before they called it quits in 2013. According to the "Frozen" actress, race was a factor in the breakdown of their marriage.
"The thing that came into play more, I would say -- he's talked about it too -- is the interracial aspect of it," Menzel said in an October 2023 episode of the "Dinner's on Me" podcast.
"It seemed like there was disappointment in the [Black] community with him because he was married to a little White Jewish girl from some show that we don't even remember."

Diggs and Menzel met on the set of the original Broadway production of "Rent" in 1995. Both were cast in leading roles and their professional collaboration soon blossomed into a romantic relationship.
The couple announced their marriage in January 2003, after a small wedding ceremony in Montego Bay, Jamaica. In September 2009, they welcomed their first child together, Walker.
Both stars' careers also continued to flourish as they performed on stage while also starring in movies.
"When you're in the theater, it's just not a thing ... But when you leave that cocoon, that bubble, in his case he's [in] People's 50 most beautiful people ... He was on the cover of Essence, Ebony, being interviewed by all these Black journalists. He had his own stuff to deal with in that," the 52-year-old multi-awarded theater actress explained at the time.

Despite their split, the ex-couple remained friends and have been co-parenting.
"As you could imagine, when a couple splits, you're caught up in your own feelings," Diggs told Us Weekly in an interview this week.
"But I was thinking of Walker and that helped take me out of my own head ... Once we started, then it was working and we just stayed on that track. We're proud of ourselves."
While the 53-year-old celebrity's relationship with his ex-wife remains calm and steady, his recent split with Apryl Jones doesn't seem to be in the same situation.
In a recent post on social media, Jones had indirectly commented on their falling out. However, it was her friend who dropped the bombshell on the trending Diggs-Jones breakup.
"Nobody left her. She left the situation," her friend revealed.
As for Diggs, he did reveal that he doesn't have "energy" for dating right now, especially with all the dating apps and platforms available today.
"I don't have the energy. So I'm hoping that somebody will just magically [appear]. And if not, that's cool too," he told Us Weekly.
