Bodybuilder Andre Cavalcanti Dead At 34 In Motorcycle Crash After Teenager Steals Parent's Car For A Joyride
André Cavalcanti was killed last week in a horrific motorcycle crash in his home country.
He was 34.
In a social media post, the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation's chapter in Parana, Brazil, confirmed his death over the weekend.
"It is with great sadness that we announce that our Pro Support athlete [André Cavalcant]i passed away this morning in a motorcycle accident," the federation wrote in the online tribute on Saturday. "It was such a young life, full of plans."
The post continued: "André was a great athlete, friend, [and] partner and he will always be remembered as the honest and dedicated person that he was. We've had a great loss here on Earth, but heaven gains a gift."
According to the 'New York Post,' the accident occurred on July 5 in the northern region of Parana. A teenager was allegedly driving his parent's car — without their permission — and collided with Cavalcanti's motorcycle head-on. Two other minors, ages 15 and 17, were also in the car, per 'The Sun.'
The Brazilian bodybuilder was reportedly thrown from his motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old was taken to the hospital. It's unclear what their condition is.
Authorities are considering charging the teenager as an adult with a crime that would be similar to homicide.
The federation's Instagram post asked "God to comfort his family with the news of this tragedy."
