The official trailer for Parkland, a movie about the JFK assassination starring Zac Efron, Marcia Gay Harden and Paul Giamatti, was released Wednesday.

The film follows the events that took place at the Parkland hospital in Dallas where President JFK was rushed to after being shot. Efron plays the doctor who is on duty at the time and is charged with saving the president's life. Harden plays the role of the main nurse who assists Efron's character. The story is primarily told through the perspective of the medical professionals present at the hospital.

The movie is based on Vincent Bugliosi's book Four Days In November. This film marks Peter Landsman's directing debut and he also adapted the screenplay from the book.

Parkland also stars Billy Bob Thornton, Jacki Weaver, Tom Welling, Mark Duplass, James Badge Dale and Colin Hanks. It is produced by Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, Guy East, Bill Paxton, and Nigel Sinclair. Giamatti plays the role of the journalist who captures the JFK assassination on film, which proves to be extremely crucial for investigators.

The film is a big one for Efron, who was also rumored to be up for consideration -- along with Ryan Gosling -- for playing a major role in Star Wars: Episode VII.

Parkland's release coincides with the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination. It's due out on Sept. 20. The film world premieres at the Venice Film Festival, which begins next week, and will also dbe feature at the Toronto International Film Festival before hitting theaters.
