Speculation continues to build over how the cast will round out for the upcoming blockbuster Star Wars: Episode VII, as Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch is reportedly close to being attached to the highly popular franchise.

According to Film Chronicles, if he does land a role, the actor would be reuniting with his Star Trek: Into The Darkness director JJ Abrams.

Back in May, the 37-year-old had come clean to Total Film that he was indeed a fan of Star Wars while growing up.

"I really, really loved those films and I always wanted to be Han Solo. Everything Harrison Ford did I just thought was the coolest thing ever," he said.

Cumberbatch aside, other actors that are reportedly in consideration for the film include Ryan Gosling, Zac Efron and Leonardo DiCaprio, who are all said to have met with Disney.

Abrams will begin filming the flick in London in 2014. The script was written by Toy Story's Michael Arndt. Although rumors had circulated in July stating that he could be potentially be making his exit, it appears as though he's indeed onboard for the popular franchise.
