Richard Chai displayed his chic spring/summer 2014 men's and women's runway collections on the first day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York on Thursday.

The Jonas Brothers, Nick Cannon, Colton Haynes, Zachary Quinto and Christina Ricci were among the celebrities who enjoyed the show from the front row.

"I loved it," Ricci told EnStars after the show. "I thought it was just gorgeous."

In his collection, Chai incorporated eye-popping colors like red, orange and teal as well as striped patterns and floral prints. The female models strutted the runway in several types of gladiator heels and flats. Long dresses and loose pants, paired with midriff tops, were also a common look on Chai's runway. Most of the men's collection included Bermuda shorts, above the ankle socks and double-breasted jackets.

While Ricci, who wore skinny jeans and white heels, said she fell in love with the American designer's gowns she also pointed out his leather jackets.

Chai's leather jackets were a runway standout, especially with the pronounced buckles and zippers. The jackets complemented the collection's pieces exceptionally.

When asked where he drew his inspiration for the aforementioned collection, Chai provided just two words to the fashion-industry trade paper WWD: "Soft geometry."

The New York native and Parsons School of Design graduate also sums up his vision in another way.

"I like clothes that have character and aren't perfect," he told Style.com in June.

The audience clapped for the designer when he stepped on the runway at the end of the show for a quick wave.
