Machete Kills director, Robert Rodriguez, has a lot of love for one of the movie's stars - Amber Heard.

"I've always loved Amber Heard. I finally met with her. It was early on in the process, I haven't usually even finished the script yet when I meet with people," he told Philly.com. "And I think I actually went to her as a possibility for the part Gaga ended up playing but I met with her and she was just so cool, she's just so bada--. And she spoke some Spanish. I promised I would shoot her gorgeous. Plus, she gets to go hand-to-hand in a cat fight with Michelle Rodriguez."

The movie focuses on Machete (Danny Trejo), who is hired by the U.S. government to destroy an arms dealer in Mexico before a weapon is launched into space. In the film, Heard plays Miss San Antonio, who offers Machete weapons and also flirts with him.

The film features many more stars, including Sofia Vergara, Lady Gaga, Jessica Alba, Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen.

The director also spoke about Gaga, whom he cast because he heard she loved the prequel.

"The camera loves her like nobody's business," he told the publication. "You may even look at her and think, OK, she may not be the prettiest girl. But you put the camera on her and she's the prettiest girl. It was a lot of fun. I can't wait to work with her again."

As for Gibson, Rodriguez said, "And Mel had always just stood out as my favorite - better than any James Bond villain, for sure."

Machete Kills opened on Oct. 11 and grossed $3.7 million at the box office. It came in at No. 4.
