Julianne Hough apologized for dressing up in blackface at a Halloween party Oct. 25.

The 25-year-old stirred controversy after she showed up at the Beverly Hills bash as "Crazy Eyes," a character played by actress Uzo Aduba in the Netflix drama Orange Is the New Black. Her hair was tied in Crazy Eyes' signature bantu knots and she rocked an orange jumpsuit and prison ID with the words "Crazy Eyes." Hough also had on a grey shirt long-sleeve shirt and as a final touch -- a black face to pull off the look of the African American character.

After uproar began over her costume choice, Hough apologized.

"I am a huge fan of the show Orange Is the New Black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created," Hough tweeted"It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I .ealize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."

Publications also took to criticizing the former Dancing with the Stars professional dancer for her holiday attire.

"We're used to seeing celebrities cross the line of appropriateness on Halloween but it's usually nothing more than an overly skimpy costume. In Julianne Hough's case, good sense was thrown out the window when she decided to go as "Orange Is the New Black" character Crazy Eyes," The Huffington Post wrote. "Maybe stick to Sexy Nurse next time, eh, Hough?"
