The cast of the Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation welcomes a new member.

Eloise Mumford, 27, will play Kate Kavanaugh, best friend and roommate of Anastasia Steele in the best-selling erotic novel by E.L. James, the author announced Friday, Nov. 22, on Twitter. The actress has been seen in the TV series Lone Star and The River, as well as the indie film Drones

Anastasia met Christian Grey in the novel when she took Kate's place to interview the S&M-crazed businessman for a college newspaper. Kate was sick the day of the interview and asked her roommate, Anastasia, to conduct the interview for her. Christian and Anastasia would have never met if Kate was not ill that day.

Those who read the entire Fifty Shades series know that Kate later marries into the Grey family.

Mumford will support lead actors Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, who recently appeared on the cover of Entertainment Weekly's Nov. 22 issue as their respective characters, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.

After the controversy surrounding the casting of Christian Grey, and Charlie Hunnam giving up the role, Dornan was asked how he felt about playing the lead male in the film.

"I don't fear it," the 31-year-old said, saying his test read with the movie's director made him comfortable moving forward with the project. "I had a glimpse into how I felt it would be if I got the part. None of it scared me."

Fifty Shades of Grey is set to film in Vancouver.
