A new trailer for Amazing Spider-Man 2 shows Peter Parker under surveillance as he is trying to get at a dark secret about his past.

Parker struggles with the motivations of his alter ego, Spider-Man. As he is seen playing savior in New York City, swinging from the tall skyscrapers to save the day, he worries about his fate.

"Every day I wake up knowing that the more people I try to save the more enemies I will end up making and it's just a matter of time before I face those with more power than I can overcome," he says.

Some levity is cast by a few comedic moments when Parker is late for a date with his lady love, Gwen Stacey (Emma Thompson). Parker suggests that he was delayed by a traffic jam and Stacey pokes fun at him asking him if he was shot at by machine guns while stuck in the jam. While he responds in the affirmative, actually telling the truth, he makes sure it's under the guise of a joke.

Dane DeHaan features in the trailer in his role of Harry Osborne, who informs Peter that he is under surveillance.

Viewers also get a glimpse of Aunt May (Sally Field) when Parker is seen prodding her to divulge a dark secret about his past, which she has kept from him.

As the trailer progresses we see Harry join forces with the antagonist, his father Norman Osbourne (Chris Cooper). Peter shares with his son the massive production in his lab that is his vision for the future and threatens the human race. When Harry asks his father what will become of Peter, the ailing Norman mumbles "Not everyone has a happy ending."

Toward the end of the trailer the superhero is seen fighting the antagonistic force, in a city under siege and in flames, fast being obliterated by destructive robots and creatures of Peter's making.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will release on May 2, 2014.
