"Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon married her longtime girlfriend Christine Marinoni on Sunday in New York City and the newlyweds have released their first wedding photo today. Nixon is pictured in a custom dress by Carolina Herrera with a bouquet of white flowers. Her partner, Marinoni, was pictured in a suit with a green tie. The picture can be seen here.

"On May 27, 2012, Cynthia Nixon and her girlfriend, Christine Marinoni, were legally married in the state of New York," Cynthia's rep told People Magazine.

Nixon, 46 and Marinoni, 45 first met at a rally to support same-sex marriage. The pair began dating since 2004 and got engaged in 2009. They reportedly live in New York City's Greenwich Village, according to the New York Daily News.

Marinoni, an education activist, gave birth to their son Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni in February 2011.

The actress who starred as Miranda Hobbes on "Sex and the City," stirred a controversy over the biological basis for homosexuality when she told the New York Times Magazine, being gay was "a choice."

Later she backed down and told gay rights magazine The Advocate that she was bisexual but not by choice.

"I believe bisexuality is not a choice, it is a fact. What I have 'chosen' is to be in a gay relationship," the actress said.
Nixon has two children with former partner Danny Mozes with whom she lived for 15 years.
