Danica McKellar, best known for her role of Winnie Cooper in "The Wonder Years," is sad about her split from husband Mike Verta.

McKellar, 37 filed for divorce from Verta on Wednesday citing "irreconcilable differences."

"I am saddened by the end of my marriage to Mike Verta," McKellar said in a statement, according to USA Today.

McKellar and Verta, a composer, married in 2009 and have a son Draco who will turn 2 in September.

The actress who in recent years has made appearances on "How I Met Your Mother," and "The Big Bang Theory," is seeking joint custody of her child. (See Photos of Her on TV Sets)

McKellar is also a famous author. She wrote the New York Times bestsellers "Math Doesn't Suck," "Kiss My Math" and "Hot X: Algebra Exposed."

The actress also had a role in the film Sidekicks, directed by Aaron Norris and appeared in several episodes of "The West Wing."

In 2012 she appeared in SyFy's movie "Tasmanian Devil"about a group of BASE jumpers at Tasmanian national park, where they are pursued by jump Tasmanian Devils.

McKellar rose to fame as Gwendolyn "Winnie" Cooper in the 1980's series "The Wonder Years." She was the main love interest of Kevin Arnold (played by Fred Savage).

She has described the transition from child star to starlet in her acting career as a "little bumpy."
