As the controversy surrounding AGT contestant Timothy Poe builds up, the singer has apologized for presenting misleading facts about his time in the military. In a recent interview with the New York Post, the so-called army veteran who had captured the hearts of Americans in Monday night's audition admits: "It may not have happened exactly like I said it did. I really do not remember a lot of things since the accident."

But he is not actually denying the blast in Afghanistan, saying: "I remember a blast going off by my head and being in Afghanistan and telling one of the sergeants.. It is like a dream ..I can't remember things exactly how it happened."

He apologized for his inaccurate facts: "I would like to take the time to tell the American people how truly sorry I am that they had to endure the incomplete facts. I understand how they feel."

Poe was never able to provide substantial evidence that he was injured in a grenade explosion while deployed in Afghanistan in 2009.
His ex-girlfriend's sister Katy Edwards told IBTimes: "He never actually fought in Afghanistan. He did break his back but it was in Georgia when he was in training to go on a deployment. On this particular deployment he landed in Afghanistan, got an ear infection and was medevac'd out to Germany. While in Germany he refused to go back to the war and was brought back to the United States. His unit lost a soldier that deployment and are incredibly upset by the stories he made up night."

It is not clear whether the producers of AGT will axe Poe, but it is most certain that he will be dropped by the American public . Freemantle Entertainment issued an apology for using a photo of Staff Sgt Norman Bone for the program. The photo of Bone was shown during the interview process of AGT, which Poe had sent in. The statement read: "We sincerely apologize to U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Norman Bone for using a photo of him in our story on Tim Poe. It was supplied to us by Tim and used on the show in good faith. It has now been removed and will not be used again."

Bone was not happy about his photo being used to depict Poe. "First thing that came to my mind was 'Why would this lying son of a bitch do this," he told TMZ. "I'm absolutely furious. Been seeing red all day."

Michael Timothy Poe, 35, told judges on the talent show on Monday that he spent 14 years in the military and that he was hit by a grenade in Afghanistan in 2009, leading to a broken back and brain injury.

In an interview on "America's Got Talent", Poe spoke in a distinct stutter, saying he developed it after his injuries. He said: "I had volunteered for a team to go out and clear buildings and help out with the wounded. There was a guy who came up with a rocket propelled grenade... I saw it coming down and by the time I turned and went to jump on top of my guys, I yelled 'grenade' and the blast hit me."

The Army Times reports that military records show that Poe worked as a supply specialist with the Minnesota Army National Guard from 2002 to 2011. He was also deployed to Kosovo between 2007 and 2008, and served in Afghanistan for a month in 2009. However, there is no record of Poe being injured in a grenade explosion.

Lt. Col. Kevin Olson, a spokesman for Minnesota's National Guard said in a statement: "Sgt. Poe's official military records do not indicate that he was injured by a grenade in combat while serving in Afghanistan in 2009, as he reports."
