Kevin Spacey, who played Lex Luthor in the 2006 film Superman Returns, recently spoke to Empire about Eisenberg as Lex, having nothing but positive comments for him.

"First of all, I think [Jesse Eisenberg] is a remarkable actor. He's just going to f---ing own it," Spacey said. "I think it's a great idea and I wish him the best with it."

Similarly, actor Clancy Brown was very positive about the casting choice. Brown has voiced Lex Luthor in several animated projects, from film to television to video games. The actor said that Eisenberg is "more current," noting the similarities between Eisenberg and Lex.

"Deep down he's a good guy," Brown explained previously. "But he also has this kind of intellectual persona that's unsettling. It's almost reptilian, which is something I think Lex carries with him."

The response to Eisenberg's casting as Lex Luthor has been much more positive than other castings for Batman vs. Superman. The casting of Ben Affleck as Batman was met with massive criticism from various sites and forums.

Similarly, the announcement that Gal Gadot would be playing Wonder Woman was criticized by fans who suggested that the actress was too skinny for the role.

Eisenberg, Affleck and Gadot join a cast that includes Man of Steel actors Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.

Batman vs. Superman is set for release in theaters on May 6, 2016.
