The rumors were true. On last night HBO's True Blood, werewolf Alcide (played by Joe Manganiello) was killed off the show.

Joe Manganiello Reveals Why Alcide Was Getting 'One Dimensional'

Rumors had heated up last week that Alcide may be next to die on the drama. After the death, Manganiello took to his Twitter to say goodbye to his character. "RIP ALCIDE - I will miss you more than anyone. Thank you @TrueBloodHBO, my cast, my Truebies, and my Wolfpack for these past 5 years. #LOVE"

Manganiello's onscreen love Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse) also paid her condolences to the character. "@JoeManganiello R.I.P. my wolfie one. the angel of death has struck again. you'd think nobody would want to be near #sookiestackhouse ever!" she tweeted.

Joe Manganiello Named Hottest Bachelor In The World

Although fans may have been surprised, Manganiello said he knew his time was up on the series' final season. "I called it at the end of last season," Manganiello told E! News. "You can't have Sookie break his heart and you need to get him out of the way so that she can deal with Bill (Stephen Moyer), so the only thing that was left is to kill him. So as soon as I read the finale for season six, the first thing I said was, 'They are going to kill me.'"

The show's writers had hinted before the season that they wanted Sookie to get back with Bill during Season 7 and Manganiello agreed.

"Storytelling-wise, you have to get Sookie with Bill; that's the beginning of this whole story. That's the A plot of the show," Manganiello said to Buzzfeed after the death was revealed. "The B plot is Eric [Alexander Skarsgard]. You also have to have her deal with Eric."

Despite Manganiello's notice that his beloved character was going to meet his maker, the actor was still upset about the end of Alcide. "I don't know, sad. Sad is probably the safest word I can say," the Magic Mike star said about how he felt. "Hopefully, my character will be remembered for his heart and having a big heart. But I will probably be remembered for taking my shirt off and growling. It is what it is."
