While the music video has primarily moved from television to the internet, that doesn't stop MTV from trotting out their Video Music Awards year in and year out.

Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" No Longer Number One Song

On Thursday, Vulture reported on the nominations for this year's awards. While several artists received multiple nominations, upstart Iggy Azalea made a big splash. Fancy may no longer be on top of the charts, but it helped Azalea get several nominations.

For starters, Fancy is up for the big one, relatively speaking, Video of the Year. It is key to remember that this is not just a nomination for the song, which also features Charlie XCX, but for the music video. Azalea's homage to the 1995 film Clueless struck a chord with MTV's audience, apparently, even if most of them weren't even born when that movie came out.

Fancy also scored Ms. Azalea and Ms. XCX nods for Best Female and Best Pop (MTV tries to be as succinct as possible in their award names). However, Azalea is also sort of competing against herself in a couple of categories. She features on the Ariana Grande song Problem, which is also up for Best Female and Best Pop. The Fancy video is also a nominee for Best Art Direction, but that is more of a technical award.

Azalea is up against some big names and pop music heavy hitters, but if Fancy truly is the song of the summer, as some have argued, she may end up taking home one of the VMA moon man statues.
