How Will Coulson Rebuild Shield On 'Agents of SHIELD'? Jed Whedon Hints At Upcoming Problems

Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) joined Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) in his 2011 journey against HYDRA, but the agent will be squirming under the thumb of the patriarchy as she works for SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) following the conclusion of WWII. While her post-war struggles and eventual acceptance into Howard Stark's SHIELD were documented in a Marvel One Shot, the new eight-episode series will take place in between these two major events.

"If you think of the short as sort of the end of the series, the series would be leading up to that moment where she gets assigned to SHIELD," explained executive producer Michele Fazekas, according to IGN. When the series picks up, Agent Carter will be "working at SSR, post-war -- so it's post-war, post-Captain America. As far as she knows, Captain America's dead. So that's where the world lives."
