Actress Anne Hathaway recently made an appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman" to promote "Dark Knight Rises."

Hathaway, who plays Catwoman in the film, was stunned by Letterman when he revealed part of the biggest plot of the film.

"I saw this movie, the Batman movie," Letterman said. "And in the end, Batman (spoiler here)."

The revealed plot, which has been kept secret by director/writer Christopher Nolan, has sparked furor among Batman fans online, according to Huffington Post.

"I saw this movie, the Batman movie," Letterman said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  "And in the end, Batman is dead."

After an awkward silence, Letterman and Hathaway laughed and he followed up with, "He's not dead!"

"It's not essential to see all the previous installations of Batman," he added.

"The wrath you have just invited onto yourself!" said Hathaway to Letterman.

Hathaway then turned to the camera, "Chris, I had no part in it, I'm sorry," she added.

"You know that's a whole thing, right?" she continued to Letterman..

Letterman seemed to be amused scaring Hathaway. When "The Devil Wears Prada" star first mentioned Nolan by his first name in the sit-down, Letterman asked if he was "the director guy," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"The Dark Knight" hits U.S. theaters on July 20 and is expected to make $160 million in its opening weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
