Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas Mavericks sparked rumors that he married girlfriend Jessica Olsson when a photo went viral of him dressed in traditional Kenya attire.

Eddie Sefko, the publicist for Dallas Mavericks, had ended all speculation when he denied the claim to several news outlets last week.

However, the couple are now officially married, according to The Dallas Morning News.

State District Judge Craig Smith told the newspaper that he performed a wedding ceremony at Nowitzki's home on July 20.

"It wasn't a formal wedding ceremony -- and they didn't consider themselves married," Dallas County Judge Craig Smith told the newspaper.

Smith disclosed that he was hired for the ceremony when the couple realized that they needed a valid marriage license to carry out a wedding ceremony in the Caribbean.

Olsson, 31, works at the the Goss-Michael Foundation art gallery in Dallas. The Associate Director was born in Kenya. Her mother is Kenyan and her father is Swedish.

Nowitzki was named MVP in 2008 and has played in 12 NBA playoffs with the Dallas Mavericks. The Dallas Mavericks won the NBA championship in 2011.
