A man who claims to be John Travolta's ex-gay lover is opening up about a six-year relationship he had with the actor prior to his marriage to Kelly Preston.

In the upcoming issue of The National Enquirer, Doug Gotterba told the magazine that he met the "Pulp Fiction" star when he was interviewed for a pilot position in February 1981. Not long after, he had a passionate whirlwind affair with the 58-year-old, who he described as "gentle, but very passionate."

Gotterba, 62, described how their first intimate encounter began:

"We flew into Monterey, Calif., and went up to the Highlands resort in Carmel. We had a wonderful dinner with a fantastic bottle of merlot, and I got the sense I was being courted. As we walked from the restaurant back to the room, John suddenly said, 'Hey, would you like a massage?'

"I'd already prepared myself for something like that, so I said, 'Sure, why not?' I went back to his room, showered and came out wearing only a towel. John said, 'Okay, lie down here on the bed.' He gave me a massage - and it turned into something else!"

The former pilot claimed that after the first affair, the actor would fly him to wherever he wanted. Gootterba also said that Travolta wanted to film one of their heated romps and was into being intimate with several male partners at once.

Gotterba shared that the "Swordfish" star revealed his sexual preference in their last conversation in 1992, not long after he married Kelly Preston.

"We were making small talk when suddenly, I blurted out, 'So, John, tell me. Now that you're married, do you still prefer men - or women?' He looked me straight in the eye and said, 'Well, Doug, I still prefer men!' I said, 'okay.' And that's the last time we saw each other," Gotterba said.

Travolta was in a brewing scandal earlier this year when several men claimed he made sexual advances toward them during massages he requested and paid for. Travolta was hit with numerous lawsuits in the past couple of months, including one from a sailor who accused him of sexual assault. Reportedly, two lawsuits was a result of the claims but since then one has been dropped.

At the film premiere for his lastest movie, "Savages," Travolta planted, what was considered in several reports, an "awkward kiss" on his wife Kelly Preston's on the red carpet, not too long after the scandal emerged.

A devout Scientologist, Travolta has been married to Preston since 1991. Their oldest child, Jett, died in 2009 at the age of 17 and they have two other children: Ella Blue, 11, and two-year-old Benjamin.

The new issue with the revealing interview of Travolta's alleged former lover arrives on newsstands Thursday, Aug. 30.
