Robert Downey Jr. has Marvelites in a tizzy.

Joss Whedon Teases Hawkeye's 'Dark' Moment In 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron'

The Iron Man actor doled out a cryptic tweet on Wednesday, teasing a major upcoming announcement. Downey included of photo of himself as Iron Man, but the image only implied the impending news is related to his role as Tony Stark.

"You've been good so here's a new #IronMan poster from @Avengers. & on the DL, big announcement in 8 days... #getexcited," Downey wrote.

Currently the most well-know face of the Avengers, Downey has already played a role in four Marvel films, with two more in the pipeline (Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 1) and Captain America: Civil War (May 6, 2016). Downey has talked about leaving his post as Iron Man in the past, but perhaps he is ready to announce that Civil War will be the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropists' last hurrah. Marvel has already announced it's slate through 2020, so it is unlikely that Downey will have any hopeful news about a possible Iron Man 4.

If Downey's Marvel exit is immanent, perhaps the actor has received the go ahead to announce his replacement, or, he may be the one to drop the news of Marvel/Sony's newest Spider-Man. The web slinger will join Iron Man and Captain America (Chris Evans) in Civil War, so it would make sense if either of these current Avengers welcomed the Marvel newbie.

Alternately, the announcement could be entirely unrelated to Downey's work with Marvel. While it would seem odd to herald it with an Iron Man photo, the two items could be completely disparate.
