Vanessa Ives might just be in for a big betrayal when Penny Dreadful returns this season.

'Penny Dreadful' Cast Teasing Sex, Guilt, & Redemption Ahead? 

Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) made a tough decision when he chose to save Vanessa's (Eva Green) life over that of his own daughter in season one. Moving forward, however, his loyalties might not be so certain.

On Thursday Showtime's official Twitter account for the series teased that Sir Malcolm might just be spending a lot of time with Evelyn Poole (Helen McCrory) this season.

Vanessa Ives Embracing Evil On 'Penny Dreadful'? 

Evelyn is known to be the show's first human villain this season, which means she might not be the best person to be around. It looks like she has some secretive motive for getting close to Sir Malcolm and it could put Vanessa in grave danger. Vanessa is set to have a pretty harrowing season ahead of her, as has been evident based on some of the photos released from the set. Shown standing in graveyards and walking in blood, she has certainly hit a dark path. On Tuesday Showtime released a new photo of Vanessa and Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) on Twitter, the former of which looked incredibly mistrusting and very worn.

So will Sir Malcolm betray her? Or will he again be forced to pay a deadly price?

Penny Dreadful will return on Showtime for a second season Sunday, May 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
