HBO is still keeping True Detective's premiere date under wraps, though a big announcement may be coming soon.

Why Is Timothy V. Murphy's 'True Detective' Role Still Under Wraps?

The network announced premiere dates for a few shows through Deadline on Jan. 8, but the highly anticipated crime drama wasn't among the programs listed.

The hit fantasy series Game of Thrones is scheduled to return on HBO April 12, which means that the date was made public three months ahead of time.

Vince Vaughn Says New Season Of 'True Detective' Will Be 'Exceptional'?

True Detective is expected to return in True Blood's old summer slot following Game of Thrones' spring run, and so a July premiere would most likely be looking at an April announcement.

If the premiere is scheduled for sometime in June, then the date could even be revealed by the end of March. Of course much of this depends on when production wraps in Los Angeles, though things seem to be going smoothly on set these days.

The crime drama's upcoming installment is set to follow murder of a corrupt city manager in California, with creator Nic Pizzolatto writing all the episodes and Fast and Furious alum Justin Lin directing the premiere.

The show will star Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon), Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Bezzerides), and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh).

True Detective will return on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
