Christian LaBella, a 25-year-old originally from California, made news this week for allegedly assaulting Lindsay Lohan, and it turns out LaBella has a famous relative.

LaBella is related to Heather McDonald, a comedian who frequently appears on the E! network's late-night show "Chelsea Lately" alongside host Chelsea Handler.

McDonald acknowledged the relationship to E! News this week.

"Yes, [LaBella] is my nephew, but I haven't talked to him in quite a while," she said. "He lives on the East Coast."

LaBella was taken into custody this weekend after Lohan alleged that he attacked and choked her in her hotel room at the W Hotel in New York City's Union Square. LaBella was initially charged with two counts of misdemeanor assault and two counts of harassment, but police have dropped all charges in the incident.

Despite the relation, McDonald said she doesn't know much about the incident involving her nephew and Lohan.

"I actually have no scoop, but nothing good comes after 2 a.m," she said. "I was happy to hear the charges were dropped."

An E! reporter asked McDonald if she thought perhaps a scandal like this is the result of hanging out with a tabloid target like Lohan, the comedian said it's possible.

"Maybe that's it," she laughed. "Yeah, I think it will go away. It sounds like it all worked [out]."

LaBella has previously worked as a congressional staffer from Illinois Congressman John Shimkus.

A spokesperson for the congressman's office acknowledged that LaBella had worked in the office previously but declined to comment on LaBella's personal affairs or any details of the incident with Lohan.

"While no one from Congressman Shimkus' office has been contacted by Mr. LaBella following his arrest, he has been an employee in the Congressman's Washington office," a spokesman said in a statement. "Obviously, the Congressman does not condone his actions. As this is a legal matter for Mr. LaBella, the Congressman nor his office will make further comment."
