Daylight Savings Time 2012, Clocks Turns Back This Weekend
It's time to change the clocks again and get one extra hour of sleep.
Daylight saving time ends this Sunday morning, Nov. 4, at 2 a.m., or late Saturday night, and extra 60 minutes will be added to the clock. Some electronic devices, such as televisions and smartphones, automatically change to daylight saving time.
Many states do not observe daylight saving time, such as Rhode Island, Arizona and Hawaii, including the Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the Northern Mariana Islands, according to The International Business Times.
This is where the phrase "Fall back, Spring forward" makes sense. For example, Rhode Island will "fall back" at 2 a.m. Sunday morning but then daylight saving time in Rhode Island will once again "spring forward" on Nov. at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013.
Many suggest changing the clocks before going to bed on Saturday night, so that you wake up at the correct time on Sunday.
Daylight savings time was not always right after Halloween. In 2005, the Energy Policy Act changed the start and end dates of daylight saving time in an effort to save energy, according to the Times. The new act went into effect in 2007 and from then on, clocks were set forward on the second Sunday of March instead of the first Sunday of April, and set back one hour on the first Sunday in November instead of the last Sunday of October.
ABC 7 also recommended that it is a good time to also check smoke and cardon monoxide detectors, to make sure their batteries will work throughout the winter. They said the following:
"Coming on the heels of Sandy, this should be an important reminder with the fires that occurred during the storm in New York and New Jersey. We also heard about the story of carbon monoxide poisoning that happened which could have been prevented with working detectors."
