Nick Fury will sit out Captain America: Civil War.

'Captain America: Civil War' Crossbones To Return To Set? Frank Grillo Warns Fans To Keep Guard Up

The former director of SHIELD will not get involved in Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Caps (Chris Evans) upcoming feud, according to IGN, and viewers aren't the only ones floored by the casting decision.

Apparently the choice to leave Samuel L. Jackson (Fury) out of the line up was contrary to the original plans of directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

'Spider-Man' Casting: Five More Actors Screen Test, Asa Butterfield's Role Unconfirmed

"I was surprised I wasn't in Civil War, because the Russo Brothers told me I was," Jackson informed IGN. "I don't know what's going on."

Welp.

Despite the absence of Fury, the Avengers will be back in force for the 2016 film. The beginning of the third Caps film will see the superhero collective battling an unnamed threat (popular opinion brands this baddie as Crossbones), and Caps, Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olson), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) will all be on hand for an epic fight scene.

Earth's Mightiest Heroes will get along for the moment, but the introduction of the Superhero Registration Act will splinter the team right down the middle. It seems Fury will not play the voice of reason as Tony Stark and Steve Rogers reach a violent impasse. Perhaps Coulson (Clark Gregg) will throw his hat in the ring?
