Leonardo DiCaprio is back and ready to become a possible Oscar contender again with his new movie The Revenant.

Twitter Reacts To The 'Epic' New 'Batman v Superman' Trailer

The official teaser trailer for The Revenant was released Friday online and DiCaprio fans are already hyping it up. Based on a true story, DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, a 19th century fur trapper who is mauled by a bear. His friends decide to rob him and leave him behind, so he embarks on a mission to get revenge.

The trailer is mostly dialogue-free and focuses on the thriller/suspense action of the film. There are many shots of snowy, near-apocalyptic landscapes with DiCaprio racing through on horseback.

The Revenant also stars Tom Hardy, Will Poulter and Domhnall Gleeson as the aforementioned friends who betray Hugh Glass.

The film is directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who just won the Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture for Birdman. With the level of prestige attached to The Revenant, it is easy to see it becoming a big contender and next year's Oscars.

Could this finally be the year DiCaprio wins an Oscar? It surely looks like a harrowing performance and his overdue status in Hollywood is perhaps unrivaled. He has previously been nominated for 1993's What's Eating Gilbert Grape, 2004's The Aviator, 2006's Blood Diamond and 2013's The Wolf of Wall Street.

The Revenant is set for release in limited theaters on Dec. 25, with a wide release scheduled for Jan. 8, 2016.
