Queen Elizabeth canceled an official engagement on Monday due to illness, following a recent hospitalization. She had planned to visit the Commonwealth observance at Westminster Abbey.

The Queen had been admitted to the hospital for treatment after showing symptoms of gastroenteritis, and is still recovering. The stomach bug forced her to cancel a trip to Italy last week, but she plans to attend her other engagements later this week, when she is discharged. The Queen plans to visit Tech City in east London on Wednesday and a service at the Guards' Chapel in central London the following day.

It was her first time being hospitalized in 10 years, according to Reuters. The Queen keeps a busy schedule, even at her ripe age and canceling an appointment is a rarity.

Her current health problems are not major and officials say there is little to worry about, according to The Cyprus Weekly.

Queens Elizabeth's 91-year-old husband Prince Philip will attend the Commonwealth Day service in place of his wife. Although he had also required hospital visits in the last two years, his loyalty and dedication to his wife does not wane in their 65 years of marriage.

The Queen's popularity among the nation remains high as the last two years have marked her 60th year on the throne and the wedding of her grandson Prince William to Kate Middleton.
