Marvin Gaye's son has blasted a biopic about his father which is tipped to be played by Lenny Kravitz. Marvin Gaye III has expressed that he is not happy with the biopic about his legendary father, which will star his childhood friend Kravitz. Gaye III wants to talk to Kravitz as to "why he would do this," according to TMZ. Kravitz and Gaye III were previously classmates and reportedly remain as friends to this day.

"The producers and directors of this film are very wrong and shameful," Marvin Gaye III told TMZ. "[They're] trying to do a film about a low period in his life. They don't even know the whole story."

"I would hope [Lenny] doesn't have any idea that we are against this film being done."

Kravitz has reportedly signed on to play Gaye in Julien Temple's film about the life of the Motown legend in the 1980's. The film will follow Gaye's battle with alcoholism, drug abuse, depression and his death.

He was shot to death by his own father in 1984 after an argument with his parents over misplaced business documents. His father pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and served five years probation.

Gaye's career had panned over 20 years and he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. He had been ranked number 6 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2008.

The legendary singer had a total of 13 number-one hits on the Billboard charts in his career such as "I'll Be Doggone", "Ain't That Peculiar", "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing", "You're All I Need to Get By", "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby", "What's Going On", "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)", "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)", "Let's Get It On", "I Want You", "Got to Give It Up" and "Sexual Healing".
