Barack Obama hosted an extravagant "Alice in Wonderland" party at the White House that went unnoticed in the fall of 2009, according to the book "The Obamas" to be released Tuesday.

The party was designed by director Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland) and it featured American actor Johnny Depp, according to the books' author Jodi Kantor.

Kantor claims that the White House covered up the lavish party for fears of criticism from jobless Americans since it occurred during the economic recession.

But the White House fought back the claims.

"This was an event for local school children from the Washington DC area and for hundreds of military families," White House spokesman Eric Shultz told Politico.
