In a recent press statement Warner Bros. announced that the monstrous forces of King Kong and Godzilla will be united for a movie.

Thomas Tull, the CEO of Legendary, and Kevin Tsujihara, the Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. broke the news on October 14 revealing that the studio has bunch of monster movies featuring these stars lined up in a special trilogy of sorts. Kong: Skull Island is set to release in 2017, Godzilla 2 will hit theaters in 2018, and Godzilla vs. Kong is scheduled to unveil in 2020. Business Wire sourced the information and quotes from the execs on these exciting projects.

The production of Kong: Skull Island will begin this month on the 19th.

Tull specifically addressed the exciting prospect of seeing the "ultimate showdown" between King Kong and Godzilla.

"Audiences really responded to Godzilla," Tull said. "Today, I'm excited to reveal that film was only the beginning of an epic new entertainment universe. As a lifelong fan of these characters, I've always wanted to see the ultimate showdown, and today we're pleased to be announcing that and more."

Additionally, Tsujihara spoke about tapping into the creative potential to reinvent Godzilla over and over and how it has driven them from strength to strength.

"Working with our partners at Legendary, we enjoyed tremendous creative and commercial success with 'Godzilla,'" said Tsujihara. "It's great to be able to revisit these characters and help create a franchise with so many creative possibilities for filmmakers. Fans love these big, globally iconic films and it doesn't get any bigger than this."
