Justin Bieber's Mom Pattie Mallette Stays Out of Abortion Debate; Calls Selena Gomez a 'Sweetheart'
Justin Bieber's mom Pattie Mallette is not interested in the politics of abortion. Instead, she hopes that her new film Cresecendo will help raise money for centers to house pregnant girls. The movie aims to support residential programs for pregnant teenagers who have no place to live.
Mallette, who signed on to be an executive producer for Crescendo when the film finished, said she connected personally with the story about a suicide and abortion by Beethoven's mother. The pop sensation's mother was an unmarried teen when she gave birth to pop sensation.
"The reason why I wanted to get involved in this film was bacause I lived in a pregnancy home my whole pregnancy with Justin, so this is going to be used as tool to raise money for pregnancy centers," Mallette said on the Today Show.
Mallette later cleared her statement up - and said her involvement with the film is not based on her personal feelings, but about raising $10 million to support the centers, according to the Associated Press.
"The press has been saying that I'm producing an anti-abortion film and taking this big stance. You know, I haven't shared my stance with anyone and I'm not here to make a political statement, so there's been a lot of assumptions made."
The movie does include some producers who have anti-abortion beliefs, but her only goal is to support residential programs like the one that helped her after her parents kicked her out of the house in Canada. "The reason why I wanted to get involved in this film was bacause I lived in a pregnancy home my whole pregnancy with Justin, so this is going to be used as tool to raise money for pregnancy centers," Mallette said.
"I don't feel it is a pro-life message," she said. "To my knowledge, it's not an anti-abortion film."
She said people are getting the wrong message by her participation, and that the film is simply "just a story of Beethoven's mom" who tried to have an abortion, but was unsuccessful. "Anybody would want to help girls in need if they needed a place to stay," Mallette said. "I'm here just to help the girls to find a place a stay."
Mallette also dished on the Today Show her views on Bieber's and Selena Gomez's relationship.
"It's tough letting go and letting our kids make the mistakes that I make," Mallette said. "I just support whatever he's wanting and I think she's a sweetheart and whatever they decide, it's great."
"Hopefully he's learned from some of my mistakes," she added.
