A rep for One Direction singer Harry Styles confirmed that the 18-year-old got a large butterfly tattooed on the middle of his chest in January, but did the United Kingdom native know his new ink was a direct nod to the LGBT community?

The picture of the tattoo was posted by tattoo artist Lyam Sparks on Flickr and a rep for the What Makes You Beautiful singer confrimed that the torso in the image belongs to Styles. Metro noted that the image of a butterfly is recognized as a transgender symbol representing transformation and is a "trademark" of the transgender community.

Styles' butterfly is the latest in his collection of at least 30 other tattoos. The photo Sparks posted on Flickr also revealed Styles' left arm tattoo: a ship. Styles has LA, NY and LDN written; a birdcage, a warship, a star, a pair of swallow birds, crucifixes and a screw on his ankle.

His new tattoo is placed in a similar spot as one of Rihanna's tattoos. She paid tribute to her late grandmother by getting a tattoo of an Egyptian goddess inked right below her breats. She posted a picture of the ink job on her Instagram page in September of 2012.

Styles ship tattoo was done in December of 2012, while he was still dating Taylor Swift. The two went together to the Shamrock Tattoo Parlor in Los Angeles and Styles got the ink job right next to the heart he has on his left bicep. Swift reportedly held his hand to help Styles get through the painful procedure.

They were also photographed together in the tattoo parlor, however, the tattoo artist who did the job said the pair did not look like they were in love when they walked into his L.A. shop. Freddy Negrete said they "didn't seem in love at all" and "they seemed more like friends."

"Harry wasn't in love and it wasn't serious for him," Negrete added.
