Pokémon GO is now undoubtedly a worldwide phenomenon, with millions of players actively playing the game since the highly-anticipated title launched last week. With the game inspired by the first Pokémon titles in the classic Game Boy handhelds of the 90s, millions of players have been choosing their starters between the iconic three, Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur.

As it turns out, however, Niantic and The Pokémon Company have added a pretty interesting and extremely awesome Easter Egg in the augmented reality game. As shown by a number of Pokemon aficionados, it seems like it is actually possible to start the game with a very unique and even more iconic pocket monster, the one, and only Pikachu.

That's right. Pokémon GO actually allows players to have Pikachu as a starter. Considering that millions of players have already started their games last week, those with Pikachu as their starter Pokemon would surely be part of a very exclusive group.

In order to have the cute, yellow electric-type Pokémon as a starter, players should simply walk away from Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur when the Professor requests that the player "Catch a Pokémon."

If a player walks far enough, the trio of starters should respawn. Just walk away once more until Pikachu eventually appears as an option. The electric-type mouse Pokémon should appear after the 3rd, 4th or 5th time the starters respawn.

Though this takes a bit more time than usual, having a rather rare starter Pokémon is indeed worth it. Plus, an electric-type starter works wonders when battling Water Pokémon, which spawns pretty frequently in the game's current iteration.

Pikachu's inclusion as a secret starter in Pokémon GO is most probably Niantic Labs and the Pokémon Company's nod to the original Pokemon games for the Game Boy. While Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur were the featured starters for Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, players of Pokémon Yellow were given Pikachu as a starter instead.
