In the wake of the news that Lady Gaga and fiancé Taylor Kinney split up, the pop superstar has issued a statement explaining the situation.

It was revealed yesterday by TMZ that Gaga and Kinney, who had been dating for five years and recently became engaged, had broken up. However, Gaga just clarified their situation in a new Instagram post, suggesting that there's still some hope left for their relationship.

"Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates," she wrote in the caption of a new Instagram photo. "Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break. We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We're just like everybody else and we really love each other."

The photo shows Gaga and Kinney with their arms around each other's shoulders.

Meanwhile, Kinney has not issued any public statement to the press or on any of his social media accounts.

Gaga has been dealing with a few instances of bad news as of late. Last week, the singer and actress was not nominated for an Emmy for her performance as The Countess in FX's American Horror Story: Hotel, despite winning a Golden Globe for it earlier this year. Then, just two weeks after getting her driver's license, she was pulled over by cops because she didn't have license plates on her pick-up truck.

Regardless, there are good things coming down the pike for Gaga. She is working her fifth studio album, which is slated for release later this year, and is rumored to have a new role in American Horror Story's upcoming sixth season.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Gaga and Kinney will reconnect and find love again, but at least fans know that there's still hope.
