They are splitting. Grammy-winning singer Marc Anthony and his Venezuelan model wife Shannon de Lima have announced it publicly.

Hence, earlier reports that they are breaking up is confirmed. The following statement was issued in PEOPLE:

"After much consideration, we have mutually and amicably decided to end our two-year marriage. We ask for privacy during this difficult process, and no further comments will be made from either one of us about this personal matter," Anthony, 48, and De Lima, 28, wrote.

So far, there have been only rumors and whispers. The first murmurs of the split happened in November, following 48-year-old Anthony's kiss at the Latin Grammy awards with his ex-wife Jennifer Lopez, whom he had divorced in 2011. A few months ago, JLo had broken up with her boyfriend of four years, Casper Smart.

Watching the scene made many people comment that being a global superstar has "doomed" Marc's marriage to 28-year-old de Lima.

"Marc is so busy with his career, touring and recording that he distances himself from his relationships without even knowing it," said an insider in the Spanish music industry. "Even with his wife in tow, she can feel like he is on another planet."

"Marc likes to have a woman at home but he also likes to live like a bachelor," the source continued. "This doesn't work for very long."

The couple had got married just two years ago in the luxurious Case de Campo resort that they had built in the Dominican Republic. They had been dating regularly since he had separated from JLo in 2011.

Being also an actor, Marc Anthony has appeared in a number of TV shows and movies. He starred with Lopez in the 2007 film "El Cantante." The movie was about the life of salsa pioneer Hector Lavoe, according to Fox News.
