Gavin Rossdale still looks back on his divorce from Gwen Stefani with sadness.

Rossdale, who was married to Stefani for 20 years, spoke extensively about his divorce in a new interview with Fabulous.

"[Divorce] was completely opposite to what I wanted. Really not...but here we are," Rossdale said. "Apart from death, I think divorce is one of the hardest, most painful things to go through."

Stefani filed for divorce from Rossdale in August 2015, citing "irreconcilable differences." There were rumors at the time that Rossdale cheated on his then-wife with their children's nanny.

Rossdale admitted to Fabulous that he does have regrets about some of the choices he made during their marriage.

"I know we all wish that, but we can't, so I have to deal with reality," he said, of the idea of having no regrets. "You can't not have regrets and be human at the same time."

Regardless of how things ended up, though, Rossdale is proud of his marriage to Stefani.

"We had 20 years together and that in itself is pretty incredible. It's a lifetime," he said. "I still think she's incredible. It was a lovely 20 years and we have three amazing children. There were a lot of positives, and with time they'll become more and more obvious."

He also spoke on the one aspect of their lives they agree on and keep in touch about: their three children (Kingston, 10, Zuma, 9, Apollo, 2).

"The one thing - the only good thing, because everything else is not good - is we care about the children and it's about them," Rossdale said. "So we do everything to make this life change as seamless as possible."

Stefani is now dating her fellow The Voice coach Blake Shelton, who also finalized a divorce only months before - in his case, to country star Miranda Lambert.
