Shia LaBeouf was arrested overnight in New York City near his new performance art project, HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US.

LaBeouf reportedly got into an altercation with a 25-year-old man around 12:30 a.m. ET, pulling on his scarf, scratching his face and shoving him. The actor was then arrested by police. It's not clear at this time why the fight broke out.

The actor has been busy with his performance art project called HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US, which was installed on the day of President Donald Trump's inauguration. The project involves people looking into a live streaming camera and chanting the phrase "He will not divide us," in reference to President Trump. Jaden Smith has also been involved with the project and was seen throughout the day on Friday chanting the phrase with strangers. The live stream will apparently be running for four years - the extent of Trump's presidency, assuming he isn't reelected.

"Open to all, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the participatory performance will be live-streamed continuously for four years, or the duration of the presidency," says the live stream website. "In this way, the mantra 'HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US' acts as a show of resistance or insistence, opposition or optimism, guided by the spirit of each individual participant and the community."

LaBeouf was chanting "He will not divide us" when the Thursday incident occurred, according to reports.

The actor was ultimately released, charged with a misdemeanor and harassment, and is scheduled for an April 4 court appearance. As of this posting, LaBeouf is currently chanting "He will not divide us" on the live stream alongside a handful of strangers.

The performance art takes places outside of the Museum of the Moving Image, New York in the borough of Queens.
