There seems to be a solid phalanx of support, contrary to what many thought, regarding Constance Wu slamming the Oscars for announcing the nomination of Casey Affleck for Best Actor role.

Twitterati showed that many quick in their support, according to buzzfeed.

Said Tony Beccera in a poignant comment: "Having worked with one of the women who was assaulted, thank you for this."

Some considered Constance to be heroic. Wrote Maxzenemarie: "Constance Wu, you are my fucking queen." Nell Scovel too said: "...you are my hero. Hollywood needs more like you. I stand with you."

A number of responders were admiring of her courage. Michael J. Bautista said, "The fact speaking up may ruin your career further proves your point."

Exandrel Taguepi too tweeted, "You just earned my respect for speaking out. Sick of Hollywood claiming to be the beacon of progress but protects abusive men."

Wrote a Congressperson, "I am always blown away by your courage, Constance. Keep on keeping on."

All their comments followed the action of Fresh Off the Boat star Constance Wu, who had recently dismissed Casey Affleck's Oscar nomination as Best Actor in a Leading Role for Manchester By the Sea. She criticised Oscars' Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the nomination.

The 34-year-old asked whether art was about humanity. She also explained that it wasn't for her career, but because she was a woman and a human first. She mocked the organisation and said it would "reinforce the industry's gross and often hidden mistreatment of women," according to smh.

Hence, she slammed not only Affleck's nomination but also the reluctance of the media to talk about it. "Men who sexually harass women 4 OSCAR! Bc good acting performance matters more than humanity, human integrity! Bc poor kid rly needs the help," she wrote.

"Art doesn't exist for the sake of awards, but awards DO exist for all that art is trying to accomplish in life. So context matters. It's why art exists."

She also said Casey Affleck's win would be "a nod to Trump's."

"Boys! Buy ur way out of trouble by settling out of court! Just do a good acting job, that's all that matters!" she added.

Casey Affleck is a Boston actor who is Ben Affleck's brother. Casey had been charged with sexual harassment by his colleagues. Two of the women were his co-stars in a documentary, I'm Still Here in 2010, according to hollywoodreporter.

Affleck was sued for US$2 million by Producer Amanda White as well as cinematographer Magdalena Gorka, who had revealed that the incidents were the "most traumatising of her career." She charged that she was up against "a nearly daily barrage of sexual comments, innuendo, and unwelcome advances."

White too said she was the victim of "uninvited and unwelcome sexual advances" and was "viciously" grabbed by the actor. At that time, Affleck's attorney dismissed their charges and said they were acting out of extortion. Still, all the parties agreed for settlement on an amount of money that was not revealed.

Casey Affleck has been nominated for Oscar and has already bagged a Golden Globes award for his acting skills Manchester by the Sea. It was directed by Kenneth Lonergan.

The film was about an uncle who looked after his nephew after his father passed away. The movie also starred Michelle Williams, Gretchen Mol, Kyle Chandler and Lucas Hedges.
