It was reported that the American auto manufacturing company Ford, has officially introduced SmartLink, a device that apparently is plugged into present-day cars to add some high-tech features to everyday driving.Seemingly, coupled cars can make use of useful features using smartphones: from remote locking to location tracking. 

According to techradar, SmartLink is a device that can be installed in a car's OBDII port under the dashboard just below the steering wheel. There are many other OBDII devices already on the market that offer similar features, but consequently, the Ford SmartLink is solely intended for clients who own Ford and Lincoln 2010 through 2016 models.  The device is accordingly presented to Ford's clientele to have the opportunity to possibly upgrade and carry some of the useful remote-features. 

As reported by cnet, SmartLink is fitted with a GPS chip and a 4G/LTE modem that  allows access via smartphones to beneficial linked features, like remote locking and engine start.  Apparently included also are vehicle location tracking, fuel status checks. vehicle security and health alerts, and vehicle location assistance.

With the accompanying smartphone app, the SmartLink accordingly will also be able to connect to a web portal. It is said that car owners will be able to access information regarding their vehicle's fitness status and make appointments via the app necessary maintenance schedules.
