After months of snow and frigid weather, it’s time to prepare your skin for sunnier days ahead. As the temperature gets warmer your skin might start feeling the humidity and bracing itself for an impact. But don’t panic! We have a few guidelines on how your skincare routine can transition from winter to spring in the smoothest way possible.

Moisturizer

Keep an eye for lighter facial moisturizers. Our skin tends to hold more water during warmer days and you won’t need as much protection as in winter. The chillier days could have also had an impact in your skin’s aging lines and a rejuvenating formula would just feel right to get you in the mood of the new season. Our current obsession is IT Cosmetics’ Confidence in a Cream because it’s a light moisturizer and anti-aging cream at the same time (no doubt why is one of the brand’s top selling products). It absorbs fast letting your skin breathe while hydrating it. I’ve been using it for 2 months now twice a day and I love how it makes my skin’s surface smooth and feeling vibrant.

Exfoliating Cleanser

Gentle exfoliating cleansers are your best bet to help you get rid of dry and rough skin left over from the winter and unclog pores. Try to avoid harsh scrubs and instead opt for the finest grains in a creamy, lotion texture. Ingredients like brown sugar or scrubs that contain honey are highly effective in getting these results. One of my all-time favorites is Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant which feels very gentle to the skin with its fine granules while leaving a refreshed and clean feeling.

SPF

With the arrival of the Spring, keeping your skin protected from the sun is key. Sunscreens for face are important year-round but remember to specially pay attention to it now. What to look for? Make sure your SPF does not irritate or break out your skin. If you are outside only for minutes at a time an SPF of 15 is usually sufficient. But you will need an SPF 30 or SPF 50 if you anticipate extended sun exposure. The Bareminerals Prep Step Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Mineral Shield Daily Prep Lotion is a good bet for any skin type.

Finally, as a last piece of advice you've heard of Spring Cleaning. Now is the best time to check on your beauty item’s expiration dates and dispose of them as well as any products older than 6 months to make sure bacteria or virus that accumulate won't get to you. Watch out specially for mascara products which are recommended to be replaced after 3 months from opening.

Hopefully it won’t seem as difficult now to transition to the new season!
