Arnold Schwarzenegger's son Patrick is hoping to follow his father's footsteps, The Daily Mail reported June 8.

Patrick told his Twitter followers that he wants to gain weight and muscle for the summer season.

The 19-year-old posted photos showing off his physique after a workout session and sent a message to inspire fans to get into better shape as well.

"Early morning pump! Who is getting into shape for summer??!! Gonna gain 7 pounds this summer," the university student wrote.

Patrick also tweeted comments to express his sentiments regarding the shootings in Santa Monica that left four dead and a number of others injured on Friday.

"Can't believe this shooting happened at Santa Monica City College. Was a mile away when it happened. Prayers to everyone at that school," he wrote.

"My pops briefly went to Santa Monica city college & tons of my friends go there today. Hoping people will realize the destruction gun can do," he added.

He still has some work to do before he resembles his father's muscular body from when the Australian competed for the Mr. Universe title years ago.

Arnold began weight training at the age of 15 and won his first Mr. Universe title when he was 20. He subsequently won the content six more times.

Arnold is co-starring with Sylvester Stallone in the upcoming feature thriller Escape Plan.

Stallone portrays a structural-security authority in the film who finds himself incarcerated in a prison he designed and has to plan his escape plan and find out who framed him.

Also in the cast is Sam Neill, Vincent D'Onofrio, Vinnie Jones, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Jim Caviezel, and Amy Ryan.
