Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's relationship may not be as strained as it was nearly one year ago when the actress filed for divorce, but they are reportedly still a world away from being good friends.

As the former couple nears the one-year anniversary of Jolie's divorce filing, an insider has offered an update on their relationship.

“Splitting up from Brad meant Angelina losing her best friend,” a source close Jolie told Hollywood Life on July 30. And while it's been several months since the split, she has “definitely struggled along the way.”

That said, Jolie is focused on her children, including 15-year-old Maddox, 13-year-old Pax, 12-year-old Zahara, 11-year-old Shiloh, and nine-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox, and doing her best to focus on the positive.

“She’s finally feeling like there’s light at the end of the tunnel,” the insider continued. “The kids are a lot more settled now, and getting used to not having their dad there the whole time. They’ve adapted to their new routine, and Angelina and Brad are in a much better place. They are able to talk civilly now, and a lot of the anger has dissipated, but they are still very far from being good friends. It’s unlikely they will ever get to that stage again.”

As Jolie focuses on her children and her co-parenting relationship with her estranged husband, she has reportedly taken a step back from her busy career.

Jolie would rather “spend time with” her kids, rather than “chasing another film project,” the source explained.

As for Pitt, he has continued on with his career and also taken up art as a new hobby.
