Actor Robert Wagner is not having the best start to 2018. A wound from the past has reopened, and it might have legal repercussions.

The Press Conference

Earlier on Monday, Feb. 5, the Los Angeles County's Sheriff's Department held a press conference to update the public on their progress regarding the mysterious death of Natalie Wood.

"We're closer to understanding what happened," Los Angeles Police Department detective John Corina, who has been working on this case for decades, told Variety.

Before Corina stirred the reporters into a frenzy, the detective stated that the investigation has not been transformed into a murder investigation and he has not charged people yet.

However, Corina did openly lament that Wood's ex-husband and silver screen icon Robert Wagner has refused to cooperate with investigators.

"We'd love to hear his side of his version of events. He's always been a person of interest because he was the last one with her," said Corina.

This new statement by Corina contradicts a statement that Wagner's attorney, Blair Berk, made in 2013, which stated Wagner cooperated with the authorities.

New Witnesses Reveal Information

At the press conference, Corina and the Los Angeles County's Sheriff's Department reviewed the new eyewitnesses' accounts that were presented last week.

Corina revealed that the witnesses stated that the last time they saw the Rebel Without A Cause star alive, they heard shouting from a boat called the Splendour. The Splendour was a boat that was owned by Wagner and Wood. The witnesses stated that the shouting belonged to two distinctive voices, one female, and one male.

The eyewitnesses also noted that the couple was arguing very loudly.

When Wood tragically died in 1981, the Los Angeles County's Sheriff's Department questioned the three people that saw the West Side Story actress before she drowned, Wagner, longtime friend and confidant actor Christopher Walken, and Dennis Davern, the Splendour's boat captain.

CNN reported that Wagner might have been jealous of Wood's relationship with Walken, as the actor mentioned Wood and Walken's friendship in his memoir: Pieces of My Heart: A Life.

The Los Angeles County's Sheriff's Department stated that they received more leads since CBS aired a special 48 Hours investigation piece about Wood's death.

Wagner In The Public Eye

While the actor has not engaged with the Los Angeles County's Sheriff's Department about the investigation, Wagner has been semi-active in the public eye.

The actor returned to CBS drama NCIS for several episodes and was featured in the 2016 Hollywood Christmas Parade.
