Driving under the influence is one of the worst crimes that any driver can commit. Lives are never the same when a driver operates intoxicated.

As it appears, talk show host Steve Wilkos has now learned the consequences of driving drunk.

The New Details

The former bodyguard and security expert for The Jerry Springer Show recently got involved in a one-man car crash. He was on his way to a Darien, Connecticut neighborhood when he flipped his vehicle on Jan. 21.

On Monday, Feb. 26, the Darien Police Department revealed to TMZ that witnesses who saw the crash came forward to reveal that Wilkos's SUV was swerving so badly that two vehicles had to pause their travels to avoid Wilkos. The witnesses also stated that they heard an ominous noise when Wilkos crashed his SUV into a utility pole. The crash shook several power lines.

Steve Wilkos Admits His Mistake

On Feb. 21, the Darien Police Department arrested Wilkos for driving under the influence. Authorities noted that they found that Wilkos's blood alcohol content level was at 0.29 percent.

Wilkos was also charged with operating under the influence and the failure to drive right. He decided that it was time to reveal the truth what happened during the crash and admitted that he was intoxicated during the accident.

"Over the course of my life, I have been struggling with bouts of depression, and on the day of my accident, I had a complete lapse in judgment which resulted in me drinking and getting behind the wheel of my car. I am very lucky and so grateful that no one else was involved in the accident," said Wilkos in a statement to Enstars.

He also admitted that he was fighting his battles with demons. Wilkos stated that it was hard for him to open his personal life to the public. The talk show host also apologized to his family for the embarrassment and grief that he openly caused them.

Lucky To Be Alive

Wilkos's official statement goes against what he originally stated about the accident. When Wilkos first revealed his crash to the public, he reported that he was not driving without his glasses on.

However, by the time he found them, Wilkos crashed into the pole. He also added at the time that he did not consume any hard liquor or does any drugs. Wilkos told FOX News that he is grateful for a second chance at life.

"I feel lucky to be alive after seeing my car. I am so thankful to the first responders from Post 53 and our local police department in Darien, Ct, as well as the wonderful people who took care of me at Stamford hospital," he said.

LA Car Drama

Meanwhile, Wilkos is not the only celebrity to be involved in car crashes. Legally Blonde actor Luke Wilson was involved in a deadly car crash in Los Angeles. While Wilson walked away from the accident unscathed, two individuals, including professional golfer Bill Haas, sustained critical injuries.

Brad Pitt was also involved in a similar situation in Los Angeles. Pitt's dark grey Tesla rammed into a silver Nissan and in turn, that car hit a black Kia. Reports indicate that Pitt and the two other drivers were pleasant when they exchanged their insurance information.

While both Pitt and Wilson are able to walk away from both of their crashes, former American Idol finalist Leah LaBelle and her husband Rasual Butler were killed in their Land Rover. The Los Angeles Police Department stated that they were traveling in Studio City when Butler lost control of their vehicle on Wednesday, Jan. 31. The authorities noted that the couple was going at speeds two to three times faster than the Los Angeles speed limit.
