John Cena is speaking out about his shock split from fellow wrestler Nikki Bella. They called off their engagement just weeks before the big day.

A Difficult Time

Although neither party has publicly discussed the split, Bella's twin sister, Brie, was quick to shush rumors that she was livid with Cena.

Sources close to the couple suggested it was Bella who called things off, but up until now, there hasn't been any confirmation.

Now, WWE Superstar and actor Cena is revealing what happened, and how he's feeling in the wake of their breakup. He was at CinemaCon for the Paramount presentation when ET caught up with him.

"It sucks. There's no other way to say. I love Nicole with all my heart, and that's that," he admitted.

A Shock Announcement

The wrestling power couple got engaged following a tag team match, in front of the entire WWE Universe, at Wrestlemania 33 last year.

They posted a joint statement confirming their breakup on Bella's Instagram on April 15, almost a year after they got engaged.

"After much contemplation and 6 years of being together Nikki Bella and John Cena announced today their decision to separate as a couple. While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives," it read.

A Pity Wedding

An insider claimed that it was Bella who called things off, following Cena's increasingly bad behavior as the wedding drew closer.

"John acted more and more like he was doing her a favor by somehow conceding to go ahead and marry her. She doesn't need a pity proposal, a pity wedding, a pity husband. She's a phenomenal, tremendous woman," the source advised.

Cena was at CinemaCon to promote Bumblebee, a spinoff movie from the massive Transformers franchise. He's been focusing on work in the wake of the split.

Fearless Nikki

Bella, meanwhile, was spotted out on Saturday without her engagement ring. Her first public appearance came the day before, at the Nirvana Food and Wine Festival in Arizona for wine line Belle Radici, with sister Brie. Nikki's twin was very positive when asked about how she's getting on.

"She's good, they call her fearless Nikki for a reason," Brie said, referring to Nikki's long-running slogan as a wrestler. "My sister has more strength than any other woman I know, especially Wonder Woman. She's bigger than that."

The upcoming season of the reality TV spinoff Total Bellas is set to shed light on what went wrong when it lands on E! later this year. Brie said she was shocked at the personal conversations Cena and her sister are willing to reveal, but that she respected how open they were.

Bumblebee hits theaters Dec. 21. Total Bellas season 3 starts May 20.
